About Take This Thread
40% of South African men admit they’ve hit their partner.
80% of abused women will return to their abuser.
It’s a pattern of abuse.
A pattern we need to break.
Take This Thread is a beautiful, unique, shweshwe-inspired fabric that highlights some of the repeating elements of this pattern. While it’s difficult to ignore as an awareness drive, awareness is not enough, which is why the project has been created to benefit the brave women of POWA (People Opposed Woman Abuse) by providing skills training, raw materials, and an environment in which those skills can profitably be put to use. This allows these women to become independent enough to escape from abusive situations where financial dependence is preventing this.
The project is intended to provide jobs and skills, as opposed to simply throwing money at the problem, and in the process help to heal those who have been harmed. We want to make a lasting, sustainable difference. We have made a pattern designed to break the pattern of abuse.
